Probably the most unforgettable and epic trip so far, what with a feat of 11 countries, 18 cities and $4.5k budget within 5.5 weeks. If you're planning a grad trip, go all-out because it's unlikely and rare that you'd have the chance to take a long and leisurely trip once you start working. When backpacking around Europe, stay smart and take the necessary precautions. In places with shared accommodation such as hostels, I prefer to hug my small backpack containing my valuables to sleep. I don't trust the lockers in hostels, as I'm unable to keep an eye on it especially when sleeping on the top bunk. Having said that, hostels are a great place to meet people from all over the world and it's best to keep an open mind, a ready smile and go with the flow to get the best experience of a shared accommodation. For all you know, you may have just found your host in your next travel destination! In areas where pickpocketing is common, be alert. Don't leave your valuables lying around (read - keep cameras, phones, wallets immediately when not in use). In fact, try to minimise flashing your valuables, and avoid wearing showy jewellery. Keep valuables in the main bag compartment rather than side pockets, and in areas of huge crowds, I take extra caution in placing my bag in front so that I always have sight of my bag. Stay safe so that you may enjoy your trip!
